| So, it was after almost a year in planning and hunting former pupils that the actual day came and went so quickly and what a day. The Sutton Grammar School Reunion 2022 by all accounts was a huge success. bar the attendee count. Numbers don’t give a true indication of the day, so let me get them out of the way first. We had 25 physical attendees and 4 join us virtually from Denmark, Australia, Canada and Turks and Caicos Islands, so that gives a total of 29 attendees (with a 25 target) which is a very respectable figure, when you imagine the number of busy schedules this had to upset. We raised almost £2000 which takes us very close to our target to be raised of £2500 this financial year, which will be doubled by me. With further pledges coming I am reasonably confident we are on track for Charity Commission registration commencement for April 2023, which can be a very protracted process. The day comprised of a pub quiz with 8 rounds, 3 rounds based upon the attendees and the school. A backdrop of our yearbook added a personal touch to the day and provided answers to the quiz questions for those wary enough. An Indian buffet style, fill your tummy, food service with a licensed bar allowed us just to relax and fill the evening with conversation and laughter, without having to reach too far. Abs and I gave some background to the day while I gave a small indication of my future plans. Then it was time to pack up and head home, kindly helped by Tom the Caretaker. The day absolutely flew by. Although I was busy with the day, seeing everyone smiling, big smiles, made it so worthwhile . With so much food left over complimentary takeaways were provided for everyone and still there was lots left. The day was designed to be set at cost, there is no way I am going to make profit off friends. That is one of my guiding principles I've carried my whole life. The day was ostensibly to have a quality memorable time with the hope that you guys would buy into what I am trying to do and give me the support to get this going for the long term. I have to say, that support has been far greater than I could ever have hoped for and I thank everyone who has stepped forward to help in all your ways. The success of the day has obviously lead to further discussions on what can be achieved as a group, with several other ex-pupils keen to help or shape this in the long term (will require further planning) and I'm keen to have them onboard as long as momentum is maintained. In the short term, we have produced a YearBook, for all the original supporters of the day and this will be purely an electronic version. Once published and the Foundation has been incorporated the Yearbook will be opened to all other years, as I can imagine there will be a some interest in it, hopefully in 2024. It will be kept open for a year, to allow sufficient time for entries, with a printed bound version presented to the school upon close. The next steps with the school are to publicise the Reunion day with the associated founding year book.
